As more of our customers are entering the electric vehicle (EV) market, MID now offers an EV electric rate, as well as a rebate to assist with the cost of installing EV chargers.
EV-D Rate
MID’s EV-D rate allows customers with EV’s to be billed for their electric usage at different prices depending on the time of day.
How It Works
- Lower your monthly electric bills by maximizing electric usage during off-peak periods
- When prices are higher during on-peak hours, customers are encouraged to refrain from energy-intensive activities
- When prices are lower during off-peak periods, customers are encouraged to do more energy-intensive activities, such as charging their EV
- This rate applies to all the electricity in your home, including your EV charging load
- This is an optional, pilot rate for residential customers and you may opt out at any time with no penalty

EV-D Rate Frequently Asked Questions
MID’s electric vehicle (EV) rate (EV-D) allows customers with EV’s to be billed for their electric usage at different prices depending upon the time of day.
With this time of use rate (TOU), customers are encouraged to do more energy-intensive activities – such as charging their EV – during Off-Peak periods (weekdays between 11 and 1 p.m. of the following day., weekends, and holidays) when prices are lower.
When prices are higher during the Partial-Peak and On-Peak hours (weekdays between 1 and 11 p.m.), customers are encouraged to refrain from energy-intensive activities.
By maximizing electric usage during Off-Peak periods, EV customers can lower their monthly electric bills. Please note that proof of EV registration is necessary to be on this rate.

The amount of money you save on this rate will depend on how much energy usage you shift into the Off-Peak hours. The more usage you shift from Partial-Peak and On-Peak hours, the greater your savings will be.
This is an optional rate and you may opt out at any time with no penalty. However, once this rate schedule is selected, customers subsequently requesting a transfer back to the standard residential rate may not return to the optional EV-D rate for a 12-month period.
No, not at this time. We are currently working on making this rate available to customers enrolled in the Medical Life Support (MLS) and CARES programs. If you choose to be on the EV-D rate, you will no longer receive the MLS or CARES discount.
Yes, this rate will be available to all EV customers whether or not you have solar.
NEM 1 EV-D customers who choose to go on this rate will continue to be billed for their net energy usage. Electricity that comes from MID will be billed at the TOU rate for the hour you receive it. If the energy produced by your solar system is greater than the energy you are using that hour, then the excess energy produced is credited to that month’s bill at the TOU rate for the hour it was generated.
NEM 2 EV-D customers who choose to go on this rate will continue to receive credit for excess generation at the NEM 2 credit rate. Electricity that comes from MID will be billed at the TOU rate for the hour you receive it. If the energy produced by your solar system is greater than the energy you are using in that hour, then the excess energy produced is credited to that month’s bill at the NEM 2 rate of 7.6 cents per kilowatt hour. The crediting rate for excess generation will be 7.6 cents per kilowatt hour regardless of the time of day it is generated.
