Wildfire Mitigation

MID Wildfire Mitigation Plan

Wildfires have become a real and growing threat in California. MID’s goal is to provide safe, reliable, and affordable electric service to our communities. To meet this goal, we design, construct, maintain, and operate our power lines and equipment in a manner that minimizes the risk of catastrophic wildfires.

MID’s service territory is located in a region of California that has a very low wildfire risk. Despite low risk, MID’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan outlines a range of activities and actions we are taking to help our region prevent and respond to the increasing risk of wildfires.

PG&E Community Wildfire Safety Program

As a safety precaution, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) promotes their Community Wildfire Safety Program and any plans to temporarily turn off power to fire-prone areas during extreme weather conditions. These are referred to as Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). MID’s service area differs from PG&E’s area as our infrastructure isn’t within critical wildfire areas. MID’s electric system also operates separately from PG&E’s, so any PG&E power outage – including a PSPS – won’t directly affect MID and our customers.

General California Wildfire Information

As stated in MID’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan, MID doesn’t anticipate preemptive power shutoffs to our customers due to local wildfire-related issues. However, California wildfires could possibly cause regional or statewide power supply constraints that would affect MID’s ability to serve our customers.

We encourage our customers to always be prepared for power outages. View power outage tips.
