Heat Wave Power Outlook

Weather forecasts show triple-digit heat for the next several days. MID continuously monitors weather forecasts and our power system conditions closely. We rely on a diverse and balanced mix of resources to meet our customers’ electricity needs.

We work 24/7 to ensure you have safe, reliable power. However, sometimes extreme heat can cause power outages.

You can report a power outage online, or by calling (209) 526-7337 or (888) 335-1643 toll-free then say or press 3.

Rotating outages – MID isn’t currently conducting any rotating power outages or rolling blackouts. Our electric system is separate from other various California electric utilities that are required to participate in statewide rolling blackouts.

In the rare event that MID may need to conduct emergency rotating outages or rolling blackouts, there are many ways you can be prepared.

Reduce Energy Use From 4 to 9 p.m.

Conserving energy will reduce the likelihood of power outages and help avoid any potential rolling blackouts. As the heat wave continues, MID encourages customers to reduce electricity usage each day from 4 to 9 p.m.

Residential Tips

Tips include:

  • Set your air conditioner thermostat to 78 degrees or higher.
  • Avoid heat build-up indoors. Keep blinds and curtains closed.
  • Limit use of household appliances between 4 and 9 p.m.
  • Turn off all unnecessary lights.
  • Turn off pool pumps.
  • Turn off agricultural pumps.
  • Delay charging any electric vehicles until after 9 p.m.

Business Tips

Commercial and industrial businesses can:

  • Reduce the use of lighting not essential for safety purposes in garages, hallways, lobbies, warehouses and displays.
  • Minimize use of office equipment, supply and exhaust fans, circulating pumps and maintenance and repair equipment.
