Modesto Regional Water Treatment Plant
The
Modesto Regional Water Treatment Plant is owned
and operated by the MID. Completed in late 1994,
the plant provides an alternative quality drinking
water supply for Modesto area residents. It now
treats and delivers 40 million gallons per day
to the City of Modesto, supplementing the City’s
groundwater supply.
The water source is the Tuolumne River, which
begins high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
At Modesto Reservoir, water enters the plant’s
state-of-the-art treatment process that ensures
the water supply meets or exceeds all state
and federal drinking water standards now and
in the future. Phase
Two expansion of the Water Treatment Plant
is currently under development.
Tours are not available at this time. Teachers
within the Modesto Irrigation District may request
a video that features youngsters taking a plant
tour and asking questions. A teacher’s guide
is also available. Send a request to Education Services regarding the teacher's Guide. Find out more about the MRWTP Phase Two Expansion Project:
