ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER
ELECTRIC RESOURCES
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Under general direction from the General Manager, to provide administrative direction and management of electric resources for the District.
This is an exempt position and is part of the Management and Confidential Group.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Consults with General Manager and other Managers on electric resources operations policy related to District mission; work with Management to ensure District wide team building toward mission; provide leadership through innovation and proactive management; provide electric resources operation updates and coordinate activities with other divisions; provide direction and guidance through managers in resources, operations and generation; represent the District in electric commissions of various joint action agencies; represent the District in negotiations with other utilities; provide direction for new electric project development; represent the District to other governing bodies, regulatory agencies and the general public; plan, coordinate, review and approve electric resources budget; work with department managers to optimize budgets and reduce costs wherever possible; provide requested input to General Manager on issues related to electric resources.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
Respond to most difficult public inquiries relating to electric resources operations; other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Any combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited four (4) year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology.
Experience: Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in various electric utility areas including design, construction, operation, maintenance and resource development. Five (5) years of supervisory experience in some or all of the above functional areas.
Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of electric utility engineering policies and procedures including resource planning and generation; outside agency regulations that apply to District electric operations. Ability to work closely with and provide policy recommendations to General Manager; maintain effective work relations with various internal and external groups and individuals; lead by example through calculated risk taking resulting in greater efficiency, productivity and service toward the customer; plan electric resources operations, handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately; support and cooperate with other divisions and departments in the District; communicate effectively orally and in writing; analyze and interpret documents as they relate to District issues; select, train, supervise and evaluate direct staff.
Special Requirements: Must have a valid California Class C driver license. Must have a valid registration as an electric engineer in the state of California.
