Staff reports

Water Report

Walt Ward, Assistant General Manager of Water Operations, reported that Monday, June 30 marks the end of the rainfall year.  Most of the year’s precipitation fell in January and February and we had very little to no rain in March and April yielding another dry year.  Though it is dry, irrigation deliveries are currently on routine summer schedules.  Staff is communicating with growers the importance of coordination and conservation in this dry year.

April to July runoff is estimated in the mid-700,000 acre-feet range and approximately 66 percent of average.  Don Pedro Reservoir is currently 20 feet lower than last year – 770 feet verses 790 feet.

The Tuolumne River flows are at 100 cubic feet per second (cfs) and MID, together with TID, is moving to maintain and monitor similar flow rates through the summer.

Don Pedro Board of Control Report

Director Cecil Hensley reported that resort attendance was down approximately 40 percent over the Memorial Day weekend.  Revenue this year during the holiday weekend was around $44,000 as compared to $76,000 last year.

Don Pedro Reservoir was the topic of a professional water skiing feature article in the May issue of WaterSki Magazine. (To read the article, go to waterskimag.com.)

Director Hensley announced that the annual fireworks show will start at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4.

2009 Budget Process

Budget and Rates Administrator Jimi Netniss reviewed the 2009 budget preparation process and presented the following schedule:

July - Mid-year budget review
August - Resource policy recap
September - Budget workshops
October - Budget adoption
November - Public rate hearing

Natural Gas Prepay Transaction Update

Lou Hampel, Assistant General Manager of Finance, outlined the structure, benefits and savings of natural gas prepaid transactions.   Prepaid natural gas transactions provide a discount from the prevailing index gas price, help avoid locked-in fixed prices that might look bad in hindsight and provide certainty of a natural gas supply.  Staff is preparing a resolution for approval to act on such prepay transactions when market conditions permit.

Advanced Metering Infrastructure Workshop

Assistant General Manager of Transmission and Distribution Tom Kimball presented an overview of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).  Discussion included the benefits of AMI, the District’s AMI request for proposals process, comparison of bidder responses, cost analysis, general project timeline and redeployment and retraining of impacted employees.

Approved by unanimous vote

  • A resolution authorizing the General Manager to execute the Amendment No. 2 to Agreement for Tree Trimming Services, between MID and Trees Inc.
