The Greening of Paradise
Valley
The First 100 Years of the Modesto Irrigation District
"The Greening of Paradise Valley, The First 100 Years
of the Modesto Irrigation District" was commissioned
by MID in recognition of its centennial year, 1987. Written
by Dwight H. Barnes, the book begins with early exploration
of California's Central Valley and concludes with events leading
up the 1987 centennial.
This is a story of a pacesetter, MID, and how the dreams
of Stanislaus County's pioneers were achieved. Today, MID provides irrigation water and electricity and treats surface
water for drinking.
The MID Directors dedicated the book to those men who turned
a vision into reality and insured that the land truly owns
the water and the power.
