2009 HVAC & Air Conditioning Rebate Specifications
Please read the details below to ensure you are installing a qualifying product(s). Rebate amounts and specifications are subject to change without notice.
Commercial Air Conditioning Upgrade Limitations
- Rebate amounts will be calculated based on unit capacity to the nearest 6,000 Btu/h.
- Single phase, split systems < 65,000 Btu/h using water/evaporative cooled condensers may be eligible provided that the a/c system has a currently, active (not archived) ARI reference number and efficiency rating. MID will determine qualification for rebate.
- Only air conditioners with independently verified performance ratings are eligible for rebate. For Split or Packaged Unitary Systems < 65,000 Btu/h (single phase), units must be listed on the CEE/ARI HVAC Directory. All other units must be listed on the ARI Directory of Certified Product Performance
- Certificate of ARI-Certified Performance for the installed unit(s) must be attached to application. The current ARI reference number (not archived) for the product(s) installed must be entered on the Supplemental Data Sheet.
- A California licensed contractor with a C-20 license must perform installation. An exception to this requirement may be made in cases where a customer has their own qualified employee(s), as designated by appropriate job title, install qualifying air conditioning at their business location. Contractor must complete and sign the Information and Certification portion of the rebate application.
- For rooftop installations, customer must provide code-compliant access for MID inspection.
- Useful life period for commercial air conditioners is defined as 15 years.

Unitary Split-System & Single-Package AC & Heat Pump (<65,000 Btu/h)
A Unitary Air Conditioner is one or more factory made assemblies ordinarily including an evaporator or cooling coil(s), compressor(s), and condenser(s). An Air-Source Unitary Heat Pump ordinarily includes these same components and includes a means for heating and provides a cooling function. When these components are integrated into one cabinet, they are single packaged units; when provided in separate assemblies and designed to be used together, they are split systems.

Unitary Split-System & Single-Package AC & Heat Pump (≥65,000 Btu/h & <760,000 Btu/h)
These units are factory-made Commercial and Industrial Unitary Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Equipment, as defined by ARI Standard 340/360-2007. This standard applies only to electrically operated, vapor compression refrigeration systems. Minimum efficiency required is EER OR IPLV, and applies to both split system and single package units.

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) For HVAC Fans
- VFD incentives are for fan applications on HVAC distribution systems.
- The maximum fan size is 100 hp. The installation of a VFD on a HVAC fan is eligible for a rebate only if throttling devices, such as inlet vanes, bypass dampers and throttling valves, are removed or permanently disabled.
- A 3% impedance choke is recommended.
- Useful life period for VFDs is defined as 15 years.

Variable Speed Motor (VSM) Air Handler System
- VSM must be installed in conjunction with a NEW air conditioner or heat pump. Purchase and install a VSM or other advanced motor technology for efficient air handlers installed with any air conditioner or heat pump, split or package air handler system.
- This incentive is restricted to air handlers that operate during the cooling season (summer months), which circulate air through a cooling coil of an air conditioner or heat pump system, and use the same duct system.
- Useful life period for VSMs is defined as 15 years.
